hospitality business entails dealing with
people from all walks of life, from the hotel staff, the people whom you do
business with, to the clientele you would like to please. This is the life and blood of the
“hospitality business” total quality service.
As an entrepreneur, I consider Human Resource as the most valuable
resource of all. Customer satisfaction
starts within the organization. A
working force who are satisfied in turn will provide service that will
guarantee quality service and, the Rotary has been an avenue for me to
enhance my skill in dealing with people – with differing personalities and
attitudes. Running a hotel is like running your own home. Each family member has differing needs and as the family head, you must do your best |
to satisfy these
needs. The hotel must be alternate
home for the clients, with all the comforts provided – perfect ambience,
convenience and room service. Other amenities such as telephone, fax, 24-hour
security, power generator, water system and over-all clean surroundings.
Sometimes, going over board cannot be avoided
just to please clients – but isn’t TOTAL CUSTOMER SATISFACTION is what
we are all after? To get the edge of the business,
innovating ways to offer not only a hotel has opened the doors for more
sumptuous meal offered in the restaurant (Chinese food, Mongolian, etc) a
recreational center like the Skybar and live entertainment (live bands). Once a client leave the hotel premises
satisfied, there is an assurance of the same client coming back. Perhaps, they can become your free
advertisement by “word of mouth”. They
are your gold mine. Becoming
innovative, creative and utilizing available resources to upgrade the hotel
must be a continuing activity. |

PAST PRESIDENT’S CORNER - Asst. Ed Dindo Astom |
How My Father Had Helped Me During My Term As President BY PP FERDINAND L. FERNANDEZ |
technique in convincing prospective presidents. But
this decision turn out to be a blessing and a big step in my life, that of
having the honor of heading a Rotary Club of our stature for a whole year. I remember the start of my term coincided with our country’s economy fall. Imagine how difficult it was to solicit funds for our projects. This was the time Dad came in handily. He supported me financially in a tough time were I can’t rely on our club’s fund for our projects. As we know, finance is a major factor in our projects success. The best thing however is letting me loose in running our club. Though I knew that he was watching every move I made, he did it from a distance, giving me the liberty |
to run
the club my way. He would just call my attention and give advice once in a
while - only when he deems it necessary. This helped me a lot in growing and
in building self-confidence. My term was the start of a transition
where the younger members started to show their wares and takeover the reigns
of our club. There weren’t much of us young members before but the turnover
has to start somehow. Though one of the youngest member during that time I
knew I had to accept the presidency because I knew that behind me are dedicated members lead by my Dad who
won’t let me and our club down. I advice prospective presidents to grab
the opportunity to lead our club. We know that it isn’t easy to be our Club
President but our Past-Presidents will tell you that it wasn’t as difficult
as they thought they would have during their term. One thing for sure though
is that my Dad, together with the Past-Presidents and general membership, is
commitment to support not only me but whoever President our club would have.
As one of the senior member of our club, in fact the most senior Past
President, my Dad that has committed his full support and care to our club. |

wouldn’t have come true without my father. He had been one of the most
