Last July 18,1999, I attended the inauguration of the Bloodletting & Recruiting Center of the Philippine National Red Cross. I am amazed by the new concept that embraces the center.  It is really a deviation from the traditional bloodletting centers.  The center has an air-conditioned room, chairs with arm rests & clean facilities which projects an atmosphere well fitted for bloodletting activities.

Our very own Dir. Rex was the one who spearheaded the project of the Phil. National Red Cross. Congratulations Rex for such a highly commendable job.

If Phil. National Red Cross is bound to give life to people through bloodletting for donations to those who need it, our Club on the other hand is bound to give support/ services also to people who are in dire need of it. It is for this purpose that we have decided to adopt 3 barangays for our  "Adopt a Barangay" project.

We adopted Barangay Baraoas, Sibuan-otong and Tanquigan for reasons not only for their being able to pass our requirements but also for reasons concerning the welfare of populace of the three barangays.  To start with, Barangay Sibuan-otong was adopted because of the alarming situation of malnutrition in the area. With a total population of only 659, 22 of its 138 children are suffering from malnutrition.  The leaders of Barangay Tanquigan on the other hand are very much willing to take the challenge, the challenge to help themselves by becoming self-sustaining through our extended help.  Their determination and willingness to do their part had moved us to give them the chance for adoption of their barangay.  For Barangay Baraoas, its distance from the town proper & hard road condition depletes the chances of government support from reaching their barangay.

It is our desire to extend help to these barangays by providing projects & activities, which we hope, will make these barangays more productive and self-reliant.  If our finances will permit, the following would be our suggested activities/projects. The adaptation of these projects will be depending on each barangay's needs. These projects are as follow:

1. Rotary Data Board
2.  Four Way Test Sign Marker
3.  Organization, Training & Empowerment of Rotary Village Corps
4.  Provision of  Water Projects
5.  Environmental Sanitation Project
6.  Botica Sa Bakuran Project
7.  Eradication of Malnutrition
8.  Tree planting & Plant Sustenance Project
9.  Provision of Livelihood Projects in the Community
10.  Conduction of Medical Missions to assess the health status and other health problems of the
       community
11. Training on Disaster Preparedness & Mitigation & Drug Abuse Prevention

Lastly, I would like to thank those who have responded to the appeal of our Secretary concerning annual dues namely; Aldy Dy, Kit Purugganan, Jerome Gaerlan, Richard Dy & Romy De Castro for their semi annual dues.  I hope that the rest will also heed to our Secretary's appeal.
