st Friday, I, together with PP Aldy Dy, Rtn. Vic Ortega and Rtn. Benja of Rotary Club North ( he represented Rtn. Jerry Parlan ) represented our Club to the 2000 Rotary Golf Fellowship which was simultaneously held at Club John Hay and Baguio Country Club.  The tournament served as a break to the members of the team as we had the chance to unwind from our daily routines.  Also, the tournament which was aimed at improving camaraderie/fellowship and sportsmanship among Rotarians, had also paved the way for better opportunities for each attendee to meet other Rotarians on a National level.  The tournament is also a better way to make members enjoy their stay in Rotary and eventually keep them in Rotary.  Speaking of keeping Rotarians in Rotary, we must be committed not only to improve our membership growth but also must focused on how to retain the right members.  According to our R.I. President, "We must strive for " quantity of quality".  We need more dues-paying Rotarians, but even more than that, we need more members who are dedicated Rotarians.  It is the latter group that will raise our image in the community and attract other service-oriented leaders to our ranks."

To accomplish this, we must first re-orient our members old and new alike of the true meaning of Rotary, its history, objective, mottos & credo.  Furthermore, members must be aware on what do they expect to gain by being a Rotarian and their responsibilities as one.

In response to the R.I. President's challenge and taking into consideration that January is Rotary Awareness Month, our District had directed at having a Rotary Academy whose aim is to fully widen the awareness of every Rotarian about Rotary.  True, many are called Rotarians but only few can truly and proudly say that they are Rotarians.  The Academy is geared to providing information about Rotary through the seminars that will be conducted.  The first seminar is tentatively scheduled on the last week of February and all L.U. Club Presidents agreed that attendees for each club must at least be 10.  To exceed the minimum number of 10 would definitely signal that we are truly interested to learn more about Rotary thereby motivating our members to be retained in our Club.  To retain our members, we too must always keep them fully active in our club activities in the 4 avenues of service.  It will shy away boredom and making them find their roles in the pursuit of giving service to our communities.  One of the major projects for our XXSAY2K is H20 SA Y2K, which finally kicked-off last Sunday 23 January 2000.  We conducted initial assessment of partially completed wells to the selected recipients of Brgy. Sibuan-otong.  In addition, we have also turned over one RVC Store to the RVC members of Brgy. Sibuan otong.  Witnessing the turn over were PDG Ces Mendoza, Dir. Ali, Dir. Richard, Dir. Rex, Rtn. Edward, Rtn. Arnel, Rtn. Fred, Rtn. Alan and yours truly.
My profound thanks to my team mates to the 2000 Rotary Golf Fellowship and kudos to all Rotarians who joined me in that arduous walk to Brgy. Sibuan-otong.
