It was indeed a good decision for our club to co-sponsor the OPEN HEART & KIDNEY SURGERY for we have partly contributed in giving a new chance of life to those who are suffering from heart & kidney problems who do not have the means to spend for such an expensive operation.  To see the plight of these people will really make one's heart bleed with sympathy.  In fact, our contribution is just a small contribution as compared to the contribution of all the volunteers especially the doctors & nurses who go to a series of dreadful feats.  To all volunteers, our heartfelt appreciation for your heroic deeds and our warmest congratulations for all your successful surgeries.

In view of the government's celebration of August as Lung Month, our club has specifically come up with a theme entitled "ROTA-LUNGS".  Incidentally, our club joined the La Union Medical Society and the Phil. National Red Cross in celebrating this affair by conducting an ON THE SPOT POSTER/ DRAWING CONTEST, which was held at the City Plaza this morning.  Concurrent to this, there will also be a HEALTH FAIR EXHIBIT on August 30 to September 1.  These activities aim to bring about awareness to the youth of the Rotary's concern of their well being.  For them to know that there are like us, who care for their well being will strengthen them not to give in to peer pressure and eventually, will reduce the youngsters hooked to smoking.

Likewise, we shall proceed with the Vitamin A Supplementation Project tomorrow.  In preparation for this event, we have already conducted training for the volunteers, general information through posters had already been distributed & waivers for parents' consent have been given.  Approval of the different school heads had been secured and coordination with the different barangay heads had been accomplished.  Practically, we are now only waiting for the big day to come.

Our club will also have its first joint-fund raising project with the San Fernando Christian Community which will be on August 23-28,1999 at the Lueco Bldg. (the former B&J Bar & Rest.).  I am once again appealing to all members to support this project by encouraging your friends and relatives to take part on this project by buying books and clothes.  Consequently, the proceeds from this project will be used to help finance other community and civic projects.

What's more, I would like to remind also the participants for the upcoming seminar for Membership Development & Retention Seminar on Saturday, August 21,1999.  The following are encouraged to attend the said seminar; President, Secretary, Pres. Elect, Directors, Membership Development Committee & Program and new Rotarians.

The participation of all members is highly encouraged in all our activities.  I believe that teamwork will make all these projects/ programs a success.  Furthermore, the District needs our support, let us then, by all means support all district affairs to achieve the district goals and make this year a fruitful one for both our club and the district as a whole.
LET US BE ONE IN MIND and DIRECTION.
